Events will be held at London's Liverpool Street Station during the period 21 May - 21 June to commemorate the kinderstransport operation in 1939, which involved the rescue of 669 mostly Jewish children from the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.
Entitled 'Winton's Trains', the events document the work of Sir Nicolas Winton. A young man in 1939, he interrupted a holiday in Switzerland to move to Prague to take on the task of rescuing child victims of the Nazi purges and arranging their transport to Britain. Sir Nicolas will be shortly celebrating his 102nd birthday.
Using photographs and documents, and concluding with a music concert, the month commemoration takens place at the station where the children ended their long train journey, and began their new lives in Britain.
